Last week was the start of our Photo of the Week competition for 2010. We've had a lot of people enter and looking at the quality of entries this is going to be a difficult year of weekly judging! It's great to see and we're excited to see there is more interest in the site and the competition.

I have decided to start this new thread for the 2010 entries so please make sure you check back here each week.

Congratulations to John Waters, who is our first Photo of the Week winner this year!! John's photo is of the Australian War Memorial , Canberra.

I spent a few hours there on News years eve. This part of the Memorial grabbed my attention. As I had not been there since living in Canberra in 1974. To see people from all cultures reading the names of those who gave their lives for this Country. [16mm @ ISO 400. 1/13, f 25].

Congratulations also to the runners up photographers:

Ann Van Breemen (Annabelle) for her shot "Golden Dragon".

Taken in my garden late Monday afternoon. It was a little difficult as it was quite windy and the camera was handheld so I had to shoot between wind gusts, but luckily as it was late the dragonfly was quite docile and didn't fly away. [Canon EOS 40D; Tamron 90mm macro lens; Canon 430 EX flash attached with the flash head tilted up a bit; Auto Focus, F6.3, 1/250, ISO 400].

And also to Todd Utteridge (Oompf71) for his shot Fall from Grace. [Nikon D1; Manual exposure, Focal length 75mm, F4, 200 ISO]

I look forward to seeing all your entries this year. Good luck and enjoy the photographing!

Em

GREAT start to the new year and once again I'm awfully glad I'm not on the damn judging panel!

John - the variety in your photography is a real inspiration. Annabelle - another to look up to and Todd - always did like that verticle panorama.

Well done all of you.

Love
Maz.

Congratulations Annabelle and Todd, both deserving photos.I wasnt expecting this as there is some great work being shown here lately. Thanks Maz but its inspiration fron the people on this site that gives me inspiration. The war memorial is an emotional place so I tried to capture some of the emotion I was feeling at the time.
John

Congratulations to Marty Platt (clickrman) for his Photo of the Week, A Little Beached: Taken @ Coogee Beach on a sunny but very menacing overcast westerly sky at Christmas ' 08. [Canon EOS 450D, 18-55 mm lens @ 1/160, F 9.0, ISO 200].
It's a great moody shot Marty and the red boat in the foreground adds that perfect splash of colour!

Congratulations to both runners up:
Peter Deasy (stan) for his shot of a Female Mistletoe bird. Took this Half Moon Bay Golf Club at Yorkey's Knob on 31 January. [Sony A700, 70-300G Lens at 300mm, 1/125, f5.6, ISO 800]

Image

Katharine Harvey for her shot of a Cicada. [Canon EOS 350d, 55mm lens, f5.6, 1/200]
