Security & Privacy

PRIVACY

We value highly the strong relationship we have with our customers and community members. Often these relationships have been built up over many years. The data we collect will be handled sensitively and securely and with proper regard for privacy. We fully endorse the 'Australian National Privacy Principles' launched in December 2001 by the Federal Privacy Commissioner. These principles have been incorporated in our Privacy Policy which is set out below.

We will limit the collection and use of customer and community member information to the minimum we require to deliver superior service to our customers and members. This includes:
1. Advising our customers about our products, services and other opportunities, and to administer our business. We therefore maintain the name, postal and email addresses, telephone number, payment and order processing information of customers when they order from us. We will never ask you to answer any intrusive personal questions.

The information you provide to us is used for billing and delivery purposes and to measure customer interest in our products.
2. Monitoring, maintaining and appropriately editing the community site to reflect the spirit of a photographic community.
You may provide us with your email address. We will only ever use your email address so that we can (a) contact you about your order or answer a query, or (b) send you special offers from time to time if you've opted to receive our newsletter, or (c) email you on a community issue. Your email address is private and we will never sell or give it to third parties.

Any personal information that you give us is private. We will never release personal information to persons or entities without your explicit consent. Exceptions to this are (a) where we are required by law to disclose certain information; (b) if you have ordered a product from us that requires personalisation, or delivery to you by an external company; (c) you are a member of a reward or other club and your order must be verified so that you will receive your reward/benefit.

As part of the National Privacy Principles, customers can advise us at any time if they (a) do not wish to receive information from reputable companies, or if they (b) no longer wish to receive product information from us, or (c) wish to deregister from the community.

Customers can advise us of either of the above by fax (61 7 3278 6311) or mail (PO Box 1058, Archerfield, Q4108 Australia). If a customer advises us that they no longer wish to receive product information from Steve Parish Publishing Pty Ltd, we will ensure their name is also never passed to reputable companies with interesting product offers.

We have strict agreements with all other organisations that provide us with support services to protect your privacy. These organisations are all compliant with the National Privacy Principles. Only authorised employees who are trained in the proper handling of customer information have access to that information.

A customer or member may request to see the details we maintain on them in our customer file by forwarding a signed written request to us.

Customers or members can advise us if any of their information requires updating.

We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that all information we collect, use or disclose is accurate, complete, up-to-date and stored in a secure environment accessed only by authorised persons. Transmissions sent to or from us are routinely monitored for quality control and systems administration.

We also value the privacy and security of your online purchases and use the latest encryption software on our site.

More information on privacy legislation is available from the Federal Privacy Commissioner.

SECURITY

It is natural for those new to electronic purchasing to be concerned about security of personal and credit card details. In reality, a commerce transaction on the Internet is significantly more secure than a similar telephone transaction or handing your credit card over the counter in a store.

To ensure that your credit card or other personal details are kept secure in transit on the internet, we use a 128-bit digital certificate to encrypt the data going to and from the website. Look for the secure page entry messages that your browser sends you and for the web address to change to 'https' (secure web page transfers). Clicking the yellow padlock that appears on your browser in this mode will inform you of the confirmed security details for the digital certificate.

If you fail to complete your order via this secure method (a common error message is "page failed to display"), it may be that your web browser is not capable of storing the later versions of this type of certificate, in which case we suggest an upgrade of your browser.

In addition, the Photograph Australia web site is hosted behind a commercial firewall to prevent hackers from obtaining access to your data. Even if this unlikely event does occur, we do not keep a record of your full credit card number. Only authorised personnel from the Photograph Australia site administration and our hosting provider are allowed either physical or electronic access to the web server or databases.

We have a strong privacy policy relating to all information provided to us through this website and we take all reasonable steps to prevent any data being inappropriately released or misused.
