This detour is a must, with an overnight camp at Marble Bar because the light is best at dawn. It is a striking area with white and ruby-red jasper rocks, a clear still pool and a town with striking architecture. Later in the morning, head for the Hamersley Range, keeping your eye out for wildflowers along the way.
